Rabbi Tirzah Firestone

Rabbi Tirzah Firestone, PhD, is an author, Jungian psychotherapist, and a leader in the international Jewish Renewal movement. She is a Jewish scholar and teacher known for her work on Kabbalah, depth psychology, and the re-integration of the feminine wisdom tradition within Judaism.

She was raised in an Orthodox home in St. Louis, Missouri. Her spiritual curiosity led her beyond the confines of that strict upbringing, and she left home on a spiritual odyssey chronicled in her memoir With Roots in Heaven. After immersing herself in a wide variety of spiritual practices, she returned to Jewish studies and was ordained by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi in 1992. She is the founding rabbi of Congregation Nevei Kodesh in Boulder, Colorado, and is now its Rabbi Emerita. She has served on the board of Aleph: Alliance for Jewish Renewal and has been involved with Rabbis for Human Rights, North America, now T'ruah.

Her books include The Receiving: Reclaiming Jewish Women's Wisdom and Wounds into Wisdom: Healing Intergenerational Jewish Trauma (2019). Wounds into Wisdom draws on neuroscience, psychology, Jewish literature and her own story to show how trauma passes between generations and how it can be transformed. It received the 2020 Nautilus Book Award Gold in Psychology.

She holds a master's degree in counseling from Beacon College and a doctorate in depth psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She maintains a private practice in depth psychology and teaches internationally on Jewish mysticism, intergenerational trauma healing, and ancestral healing. She lives in Colorado.
