A hillside bungalow and jungle-glamping lodge for retreats in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Breakfast at Bohemia is served at a private table, with the Pacific and the pool running out to the horizon and the sound of the jungle behind. The lodge sits on a hillside in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, and its pages describe it as something that began as a dream rather than a blueprint.
Local artisans built it from teak and other hardwoods. There are six places to sleep: three ocean-view bungalows, called Luna, Bahia and Maya, and three jungle glamping suites, called Fazia, Noor-A and Sofia. The bungalows have hot water, air conditioning, private patios over the ocean and 300-thread-count sheets.
Retreats are kept intimate, with no more than 16 guests. The packages include a Yoga Bliss Retreat, a Surf and Wellness Adventure, a Wellness Oasis Retreat and a Romantic Jungle Escape. Facilitators can also propose a retreat of their own. The wellness menu runs from deep tissue and Thai healing massage to a Holistic Massage that pairs bodywork with Reiki. Its energy therapies include acupuncture, shamanic spiritual healing, vibroacoustic therapy and sound healing.
Several nights a week the kitchen opens to the neighbourhood for Pizza Nights, with wood-fired pizzas, and Sunset Cocktail Nights, with tapas. A private chef cooks for dinners and celebrations, and vegan and vegetarian options are offered. Bohemia describes itself as part of the Santa Teresa community and as a resident of a Bluezone. It keeps an organic garden and takes part in tree planting, beach cleanups and wildlife conservation.
