Wellness Retreat
Description
The Art of Grounded Optimism is a five-night wellness retreat at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, for people who want to stay hopeful and steady in uncertain times. It blends yoga, mindfulness and somatic practice with behavioral neuroscience and play. It is led by Anne Therese Gennari, known as "The Climate Optimist," and Eli Walker, founder of The Uplift Center.
The premise is that optimism is a practice that anchors you in the present and gives you an inner map for what comes next. Together you trade isolation for connection and rumination for possibility, using radical imagination to help shape a kinder, more resilient world.
What to Expect
The days move between embodiment and reflection. Yoga and meditation classes help regulate the nervous system, and the program sessions are workshops that draw on data, reflection and future-oriented thinking. Themes include:
- Embodied belonging. Belonging is treated as an experiential skill rather than a matter of circumstance. You practice Yoga Uplifted™ and Meditation Uplifted™ to regulate your nervous system from the inside out.
- The neuroscience of change. You explore how stress and rumination block creativity, then learn to bypass old narratives with Theory U's "Presencing."
- Play-based breakthroughs. Eli's P.L.A.Y. Method and her 12 "Belonging Hacks" make belonging a daily practice.
- The unimaginable future. Through visionary journaling, you map a reality beyond your current limitations.
- The "retruthing" exercise. This signature Climate Optimist practice rewrites outdated worldviews and aligns your decisions with empowered growth.
You leave with social wellness strategies for work, life and community, along with somatic tools for turning fear into real change.
The rhythm is steady. The opening day begins with check-in at 2:00 pm, a Kripalu Yoga class from 4:45 to 6:00, dinner, and a program session from 7:30 to 9:00. Each full day starts with yoga from 6:30 to 7:45 am and a silent breakfast, followed by program sessions from 9:30 to 11:30 and again from 1:30 to 4:30, with lunch between them. Another yoga class runs from 4:45 to 6:00, then dinner. On the closing day, after morning yoga and silent breakfast, there is a final session from 9:00 to 11:00, then lunch and departure. Times may shift, and the schedule given at check-in has the final details and room locations.
