Bryan Kest
Atelier de yoga
Description
This Power Yoga Long, Slow & Deep master class is a yoga workshop with Bryan Kest, the creator of Power Yoga, held at UNIT Yoga in Wiesbaden, Hesse, Germany. It is the slower, deeper counterpart to his vigorous Power Yoga class, and it suits anyone who wants to practice yoga with attention to breath, sensation and balance rather than speed or effort.
Kest is touring with his program in Europe, and the Wiesbaden stop includes this Long, Slow & Deep (LSD) session as well as a separate Power Yoga master class at the same studio.
What to Expect
The Long, Slow & Deep format is built around the idea that power is not only strength. In Kest's teaching, power lies in strength (yang) and also in gentleness (yin), and real health comes from a proper balance between the two. That balance is personal, and each student has to find their own.
Expect a class shaped by the principles Kest is known for. You are asked to breathe deeply through the nose, to honor your limits, and to back off when sensation turns into strain. Comparing yourself to others has no place in the room. Meditation and gratitude run through the practice, in keeping with his stated aim of a system of exercise that fully integrates the body, mind and spirit.
About Bryan Kest
Bryan Kest is the creator of Power Yoga. Born in 1964, he began practicing yoga in 1979, at the age of 14. He was one of the first Westerners to learn Ashtanga, studying in Hawaii with David Williams and in India with Pattabhi Jois, and he has been teaching since 1985.
Kest notes that "power yoga" has become a generic term for any vigorous class. His own approach is broader, pairing strength with gentleness, and it treats the right balance between them as something each person discovers individually.
The Place
The master class takes place at UNIT Yoga in Wiesbaden, in the German state of Hesse.
Before You Go
The practice is built around listening to your own body and working within your limits, so it is open to people who want to approach yoga that way. Bring what you normally use for a yoga class, and plan to focus on your own experience rather than on the people around you.
