Megha Nancy Buttenheim is the founding director and self-described CJO (Chief Joy Officer) of Let Your Yoga Dance, a joy-based transformational movement practice whose tagline is "Where Joy and Fun Meet Deep and Sacred." She describes herself as an inspirational dancer, teacher-trainer, educator and author, and brings the experience of a lifelong dancer, actress, singer, yogi and educator in experiential learning to her work. Her credo is "Everyone is a Dancer," and she believes dancing is the key to a joyful life.
Let Your Yoga Dance is a dance through the body's seven energy centers, the chakras. It brings together gentle moving yoga, user-friendly dance, qigong, meditation in motion, dance prayer, a yoga cool down and relaxation, set to music from around the world. Its mission is to spread joy and consciousness by transmitting body, brain, heart and soul health to all populations.
Megha has been a legacy faculty member at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, leading teacher trainings, retreats and classes there since 1985. She directed Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training for seven years and Holistic Health Teacher Training for ten, and has directed the Let Your Yoga Dance Teacher Training for thirty years. She has given keynotes, workshops and trainings across the USA, Canada and England, and in Melbourne, Australia and Costa Rica.
She also teaches Let Your Yoga Dance to special populations, especially people with Parkinson's, MS, elders, and those recovering from chemotherapy, and she offers a teacher training for those who want to bring the practice to them. She has received four grants from the American Parkinson Disease Association and has taught at Parkinson's conferences across the USA and Canada.
Megha joined the faculty of the Wholebeing Institute when it began, creating the role of Director of Movement and Meditation for its Certificate in Positive Psychology. She created "embodied positive psychology" and wrote the curriculum and book Expanding Joy: Let Your Yoga Dance, Embodying Positive Psychology, working closely with Tal Ben-Shahar. She also teaches gentle yoga and qigong.
Worth Knowing
Megha Nancy Buttenheim is the founding director of Let Your Yoga Dance, a joy-based movement practice that moves students through the seven chakras using gentle moving yoga, user-friendly dance, qigong, meditation in motion, and dance prayer. She calls herself an inspirational dancer, teacher-trainer, educator and author, and her background as a lifelong dancer, actress, singer and experiential educator shows in how the classes are built. Her credo, 'Everyone is a Dancer,' is central to the method, which is designed so that people who doubt their rhythm can still follow and feel the work. Much of the interest in her comes from yoga teachers who have trained with her and from people who came to yoga through movement rather than seated or pose-based practice. Her approach treats joy as a teaching method rather than a mood, and that distinction is what most often draws serious students in. Her work has also reached special-population settings, which is where many newcomers first encounter her name.
